The history
How it all started:
In 2002 two people working at Rainbow Hotel Harstad came up with an idea to start a company choir. These entrepreneurs were the hotel manager Ole-Johnny Korsgaard and sales manager Knut Olaf Frikstad. They motivated almost all employees at the hotel to join the choir and Rainbow Gospel Choir was founded. Knut Olaf Frikstad was the choir’s conductor and musical leader. When the hotel chain changed its name in 2005, the choir continued under the name Thon Gospel Choir. During this period new members joined and the members were no longer only hotel employees. In 2007 the choir therefore changed its name to Care Gospel. Wolfgang Schmitt took over as conductor and musical leader in autumn of 2008.
From its founding the choir has been involved in various charity and fund-raising projects for the benefit of organizations such as Gatekirka (The Street Church), The Salvation Army, and Ragnar’s Care Foundation. The choir has even sung in the church Lofotkateralen and raised money for the church’s new roof.
Most of our concerts take place in the Harstad area. We have visited Lofoten, Sortland, Kvæfjord, Tromsø and various churches in Harstad. At several occasions we have had the pleasure to work with well known singers and musicians of the London Community Gospel Choir. Their members have visited us in Harstad and Care Gospel visited them in London in 2008. In September 2010 we toured in Germany where we had three concerts, including one at the festival Gospelkirchentag in Karlsruhe. It was an experience of a life time!
